Entrepreneurs have to learn how to manage a Company. They are not born knowing how to do that. It’s a professional skill that improves with time. The problems appear when your company grows and you feel you can’t control everything. It’s at that moment when, in some cases, it may be a good idea to hire professional managers.
A good example of this is Steve Jobs whose partners forced him to hire managers to control his exceptional intellect. Of course, these managers ended up kicking him out of his own company, so this strategy can also involve risks.
There are exceptional people whom, because of their genius, are able to build a start-up and turn it into a successful company. But sometimes I’ve also seen cases where these entrepreneurs had serious problems to manage a big team.
My advice is that you have to learn to delegate, let go and trust good professionals. You also have to learn to supervise and focus on your core business…you can’t delegate that.
